Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. Barbara Streisand sings for you.

REPUBLICAN

You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. So?

SOCIALIST

You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor. You form a cooperative to tell him how to manage his cow.

COMMUNIST

You have two cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk. You wait in line for hours to get it. It’s expensive and sour.

CAPITALIST

You have two cows. You sell one, buy a bull and build a herd of cows.

BUREAUCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE

You have two cows. Under the new farm program, the government pays you to shoot one, milk the other and then pour the milk down the drain.

AMERICAN CORPORATION

You have two cows. You sell one, lease it back to yourself and do an IPO on the second one. You force the two cows to produce the milk of four cows. You’re surprised when one cow drops dead. You spin an announcement to the analysts stating you have downsized and are reducing expenses. Your stock goes up.

FRENCH CORPORATION

You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows. You go to lunch and drink wine. Life is good.

JAPANESE CORPORATION

You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk. They learn to travel on unbelievably crowded trains. Most are at the top of their class at cow school.

GERMAN CORPORATION

You have two cows. You engineer them so they are all blond, drink lots of beer, give excellent quality milk and run 100 miles per hour. Unfortunately, they also demand 13 weeks of vacation per year.

ITALIAN CORPORATION

You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are. While ambling around, you see a beautiful woman. You break for lunch. Life is good.

RUSSIAN CORPORATION

You have two cows. You have some vodka. You count them and learn you have five cows. You have some more vodka. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. The mafia shows up and takes over however many cows you really have.

TALIBAN CORPORATION

You have all the cows in Afghanistan, which are two. You don’t milk them because you can’t touch any creature’s private parts. You get a $40 million grant from the U.S. government to find alternatives to milk production but use the money to buy weapons.

IRAQI CORPORATION

You have two cows. They go into hiding. They send radio tapes of their mooing.

POLISH CORPORATION

You have two bulls. Employees are regularly maimed and killed attempting to milk them.

BELGIAN CORPORATION

You have one cow. The cow is schizophrenic. Sometimes the cow thinks it’s French, other times it’s Flemish. The Flemish cow won’t share with the French cow. The French cow wants control of the Flemish cow’s milk. The cow asks permission to be cut in half. The cow dies happy.

FLORIDA CORPORATION

You have a black cow and a brown cow. Everyone votes for the best looking one. Some of the people who actually like the brown one best accidentally vote for the black one. Some people vote for both. Some people vote for neither. Some people can’t figure out how to vote at all. Finally, a bunch of guys from out-of-state tell you which one you think is the best looking cow.

CALIFORNIA CORPORATION

You have millions of cows. They make real California cheese. Only five speak English. Most are illegals. Arnold likes the ones with the big udders.

Skunks

This Every meeting I was scheduled to attend this week was cancelled at the last minute. In other words, I’ve been well prepared for nothing.

Kim and I plan on going out to eat tonight and finishing season three of "24." We’re trying to watch all the episodes before season four premiers on Sunday. I’ve been enjoying appearances by David Herman, better known as Michael Bolton from “Office Space,” and “Mr. Show” alumna Mary Lynn Rajskub.

Speaking of television shows, some re-re is suing NBC for $2.5 million, contending he threw up after watching a “Fear Factor” episode in which contestants ate rats mixed in a blender. I don’t know about you, but my vomit is worth at least $5 million.

I just ordered several iPod accessories online, including a cup holder insert. I’ll be honest, I got paid today and don’t know what to do with my money. I love my iPod. It allows me to listen to Girls Against Boys instead of Kelly Clarkson when I go running.

An older woman who works in my building told me I look like Colin Farrell. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.
Cosmo Kramer: What happened to the doll?
Frank Costanza: It was destroyed. But out of that, a new holiday was born ... a Festivus for the rest of us!
Cosmo Kramer: That must've been some doll.
Frank Costanza: She was!

I hope everybody is having a happy Festivus. In honor of the holiday, a donation has been made in your name to the Human Fund. The Human Fund. Money for people.

For those of you who don't know, the Festivus celebration includes three major components:

The Festivus Pole: During Festivus, an unadorned aluminum pole is displayed apparently in opposition to the commercialization of decorated Christmas trees and because the holiday's creator, Frank Costanza, "find[s] tinsel distracting." Local customs have changed, and you may be able to decorate your pole with non-threatening plain decorations.

The Airing of Grievances: At the Festivus dinner, the celebrant tells his or her friends and family all the instances where they disappointed the celebrant that year.

The Feats of Strength: The head of the family tests his or her strength against one participant of the head's choosing. Festivus is not considered over until the head of the family has been pinned. A participant is allowed to decline to attempt to pin the head of the family only if they have something better to do instead.

The Feast of Alvis

"On a frosty winter's night, a wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman carrying pioneers to the frontier. A young woman in the party called Delia was heavy with child. And though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year, none had lain with her, though she was comely. And on this frosty winter's night, young Delia's water broke, almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon. And the pioneers beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance, so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there. But due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full. And so there in the stable, among the feed and tack and the ... the ... whatsis, Delia gave birth to a son, whom she called Alvis, as was her wont. And since none of the men in the party were the father, it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle. And it was so, for above the fort, there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet. And so brilliant was its light, that there came from all the tribes, which the soldiers had not yet decimated, shamans. And they rode upon buffalo as was their heathen custom, bearing gifts, offerings of whiskey and firearms. And when the shamans saw the child, they were in awe, for he glowed as bathed in the light which was truly not of this world." - as told by Captain Hazel "Hank" Murphy of "Sealab 2021" on Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim."

“Now drink with me deeply of the bourbon, scotch and rye until such time as we are fighting drunk. A deranged Pantera fan who presumably blamed Dimebag Darrell for breaking up the band shot and killed the guitarist last night. Mark David Chapman, eat your heart out! What the hell is wrong with people? Not that it matters, but anybody who knows the first thing about Pantera understands Philip Anselmo, not Dimebag Darrell, was mainly responsible for the band’s demise. Still, nobody deserves to die for breaking up a band, not even Yoko Ono. I just hope there aren’t too many disgruntled Shuttlecock or Reformers fans out there. To make matters worse, the nutjob was wearing a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey. I'm relieved it didn't turn out to be left-winger Rick Nash. I would still like to lecture the surviving members of Pantera, especially Dimebag Darrell’s brother Vinnie Paul, for defiling the Stanley Cup after the Dallas Stars usurped the trophy in 1999. For what it’s worth, I still say Brett Hull was in the crease. For bonus points, name Pantera’s bass player without searching the Internet. I bet the truck’s owner felt like a real patriot, a true freedom fighter. I spotted a guy with the lowest-sloping forehead and reddest neck, which is not easy to do at Whataburger during lunch hour, and, sure enough, he was the owner of the truck. I wanted to approach him and sarcastically thank him for helping to ensure our country’s damnation for at least four more years, but he was too busy polishing his halo and draping himself in the American flag to chat with me.

"I personally do not believe in burning the flag. It's a personal belief, but I'll tell you something, I think people are overreacting, oh, just a little bit. 'Hey buddy, my daddy died for that flag.' Well, I bought mine. Sorry. You know they sell them at K-Mart for three bucks, you're in, you're out, brand new flag, no violence was necessary. 'Hey buddy, my daddy died in the Korean war for that flag.' What a coincidence - my flag was made in Korea!" - Bill Hicks

Top 10 CDs of 2004

1. Kim and I went to my parents' house and watched the Lions get destroyed by the Colts "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and the "Seinfeld" special. It was quiet and relaxing, but the Kroger-bought stuffing could have been a whole lot better. At least the turkey was good.

Friday was spent working out and watching the Longhorns crush the Aggies. After the game, Kim and I went out to dinner with friends and played board games. It's entertaining to see how sparks can fly when couples play "Outburst" and "$25,000 Pyramid" against each other.

I went to Kim's grandparents' house in The Woodlands on Saturday and ate gumbo, shrimp and several desserts. Kim's uncles must be losing steam; they hardly made fun of me. I guess that's what happens when you become a semi-official member of somebody's family.

Today couldn't have been more uneventful, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I played videogames and watched television all day. The Texans beat the Titans, which is always exciting. I have a cat in my lap as I write this. Hayley likes me because I'm always warm and she's always cold. I feel like Dr. Evil with Mr. Bigglesworth.

Strikes and Gutters

I was a total slug this weekend. Kim and I watched "Before Sunrise" on Friday night and "Fever Pitch" on Sunday morning. “Before Sunrise” was well written, and I’m looking forward to watching the sequel, "Before Sunset." “Fever Pitch,” which is a Nick Hornby autobiography, left much to be desired. The Farrelly brothers are remaking the film and replacing Arsenal with the Boston Red Sox, which explains why Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore were making out when the BoSox won the World Series.

I went bowling on Saturday night and rolled a 131, 61 and 133. I bowled the last three frames of the second game left handed. Also, I’m totally jonesing for a mega dose of Novocain right about now. I’m so bored at work today. At least I look like a team player in my official UTMB swag.

I have no idea what I’m going to do this weekend. Part of me wants to see Earlimart tonight and TV on the Radio on Sunday, but the other part wants to watch DVDs and play ESPN videogames all weekend. Kim and I are addicted to Rico’s $2.99 margaritas and will probably go there either tonight or tomorrow night.

Michigan at Ohio State is on Saturday. I really don’t like the Buckeyes and would like to see the Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. Hopefully, California and Utah will both lose, thus securing Texas a BCS bowl game. That’s assuming Texas beats Texas A&M next Friday and Oklahoma wins the Big 12 championship game in two weeks. Also, I've been told they do a mean cover of the Pixies' "Mr. Grieves."

For those of you who'd like to listen to U2's new record, How to Dismantle an Atom Bomb, before it comes out, click here.

Kim and I met last night with the Catholic priest who will be marrying us next June. He was really down-to-earth and didn't once tell us we were going to hell for living together in sin before getting married. It looks like I lost that bet. Kim invited him to the rehearsal dinner, and I began to wonder if priests actually enjoy hanging out with people who aren't priests. It reminds me of the chaplain from "Catch-22." The officers like the chaplain because he is a man of God but don't like him because they always have to be on their best behavior whenever he is around. Also, priests notice when your baby is crying. So take your crybaby to the cry room, if not for the priest, for me.

Gray Day

Wouldn't it be great if somebody invented a magical pair of scissors that only cut gray hair?

Subbacultcha

I started listening to the Pixies show I went to last month on my drive to work this morning. It's fitting that he died on Veterans' Day. He fought at D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Nazis couldn't kill him, but cancer did. I didn't know him all that well, but he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family, especially my dad. It's a weird feeling losing your last grandparent. He was cremated, and services will be held in Michigan next weekend.

This weekend was fairly quiet and uneventful. I played guitar on Friday, completed online defensive driving on Saturday (that's an interesting story) and watched the Lions and Texans lose on Sunday. At least the Longhorns pulled out an amazing comeback on Saturday. I promise my next post won't be a downer. I think I got too much sleep this weekend, if there is such a thing.

Calmer

"Waitin' for a Superman" by the Flaming Lips

Asked you a question
I didn't need you to reply
Is it gettin' heavy?
But they'll realize
Is it gettin' heavy?
Well I thought it was already as heavy
As can be

Is it overwhelming
To use a crane to crush a fly?
It's a good time for Superman
To lift the sun into the sky

'Cause it's gettin' heavy
Well I thought it was already as heavy
As can be

Tell everybody
Waitin' for Superman
That they should try to hold on
Best they can
He hasn't dropped them
Forgot them
Or anything
It's just too heavy for Superman to lift

Is it gettin' heavy?
Well I thought it was already as heavy as can be

Tell everybody
Waitin' for Superman
That they should try to hold on
Best they can
He hasn't dropped them
Forgot them
Or anything
It's just too heavy for Superman to lift

Glen Campbell Would Agree or It's All Greek To Me

I’m beginning to think Galveston is underrated. Sure, the beaches suck and there are a lot of shantytowns, but the people are really nice and the food is great. I got a gyro and Greek salad at Mediterranean Chef, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on the Strand, and couldn’t believe how good it was. It’s satisfying being able to go out to eat and not give my hard-earned money to Landry’s owner Tillman Fertita, whose inferior restaurants debase the island, not to mention Kemah.

Has anybody heard the new Jimmy Eat World CD Futures? Track 10, “Night Drive,” has to be the worst song I’ve ever heard by a band I like. And what’s with Liz I-sold-my-soul-to-the-Matrix Phair singing backup on “Work?” Oh well. I have to go back a week from Friday and get the other three filled. This is what happens when you don't see a dentist for almost two years because you don't have insurance. Now that I'm insured, I'm looking forward to getting a physical next month. It's been a while since I've turned my head and coughed.

I enjoyed getting home from work a little early. I finished learning "Optimistic" by Radiohead on guitar. It's not one of my favorite songs of theirs, but it's fun to play.

Kim and I watched three episodes of "Arrested Development" on DVD. That has to be the funniest non-animated show on television. It's nice to see David Cross get exposed to a wider audience.
